What Is Ofev Used For?

Ofev (nintedanib) is an oral triple kinase inhibitor that blocks pro-fibrotic signaling pathways. It is indicated in adults for:

  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
  • Chronic fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) with a progressive phenotype
  • Slowing the rate of decline in lung function in systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD)

Ofev is a prescription medicine and must be used under the supervision of a qualified pulmonologist or rheumatologist, with regular liver function monitoring.

Recommended Dosage

  • 150 mg twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, taken with food and swallowed whole
  • Reduced to 100 mg twice daily for patients with mild hepatic impairment
  • Maximum daily dose of 300 mg

This information is not a treatment plan. For personalized medical advice, consult your doctor and refer to the full prescribing information.

Ofev Warnings and Precautions

  • Liver injury: Ofev has been associated with elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin. Liver function tests should be done before starting treatment and monitored periodically thereafter.
  • Embryo-fetal toxicity: Ofev can cause fetal harm. A pregnancy test should be done before starting treatment, and effective contraception used during treatment.
  • Gastrointestinal effects: Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting are common and may require supportive management or dose adjustment.
  • Bleeding risk: Ofev may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Arterial thromboembolic events: Increased risk has been observed; caution is advised in patients with cardiovascular risk factors.
  • Gastrointestinal perforation: Rare but serious cases have been reported.

Documentation & Availability

What documents are required to import Ofev to India?

Ofev (nintedanib) capsules may be imported in the patient's name only, by patients or government hospitals, in line with India's import regulations for unapproved medicines. The following documentation is required:

  • A valid prescription from a qualified pulmonologist or rheumatologist
  • The patient's diagnostic reports confirming IPF, progressive fibrosing ILD, or SSc-ILD
  • Patient ID proof (issued by the Government of India)

How is the order confirmed?

The order is confirmed only after receipt and verification of a valid prescription from the doctor and, if applicable, an import permit.

Is Ofev available in India?

Ofev (nintedanib capsules) is a prescription medicine that legally requires a doctor's prescription to be dispensed. As of current publicly available information, Ofev is not commercially marketed in India.

However, patients in India can legally access Ofev through the Named Patient Program (NPP) — an import provision that allows patients to receive medicines approved in other countries but not yet marketed in India, under a doctor's prescription and proper regulatory documentation.

Ofev received US FDA approval for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, progressive fibrosing ILD, and SSc-ILD, ensuring full transparency throughout the process.

Ofev can be made available to patients, doctors, and hospitals across major cities in India, including Gurgaon, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Jaipur, Udaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Chandigarh, Mohali, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, Mangalore, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Goa, Jammu, Srinagar, Dehradun, Bhopal, Indore, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and others.
